Composite fillings are also sometimes referred to as tooth-coloured or white fillings and unlike traditional amalgam fillings, they can be colour matched so they sit more discreetly inside the mouth.
One of the main complaints about amalgam fillings is how noticeable and unsightly they can be. In addition, amalgam fillings weaken teeth and are much more likely to cause cracks, whereas composite fillings are bonded to the teeth, reducing the risk of teeth cracking. Composite fillings offer a durable and aesthetically-pleasing alternative that provides all the same dental support as a traditional filling.
They can be applied to the front and back teeth alike and can be used to replace older amalgam fillings if patients decide they would like to move onto something more discreet. You can of course also choose to have composite fillings if this is your first time having a filling.
They are also often used in Smile Makeovers to help create a more uniform finish to a smile, should fillings be a necessary part of this bespoke treatment plan.
